Hare & Fish books can be made in hardback and softback styles. Both types are hand sewn and bound in leather, and can be adapted to many different uses. We can order particular types of paper, for instance high quality cartridge for special sketchbooks, or even alternate types of paper in the same book if you want to write a journal and illustrate it.

HARDBACKS 

Hardback books are hand sewn, with smooth or deckled edge pages between hard covers. They can be bound in a variety of leathers and styles, with different types of spines.

Fully leather bound – completely covered in leather.

Half bound – leather spine and corners with coloured marbled paper sides.

Quarter bound – leather spine with coloured marbled paper sides.

Flat spine – as it sounds, a flat, straight spine.

Round spine – the back of the book has been rounded and backed to make the spine a smooth curve.

Raised cords – where the cords onto which the book has been sewn are visible on the spine.

Smooth back – a smooth spine, where the cords are not visible.

SOFTBACKS 

Softbacks are also hand sewn and wrapped in durable cow or goat skin, and can be designed in many different wrap or non-wrap styles. Pockets can be added for storing scraps of paper or sketches. Different leather ties or leather patchwork covers, embossing or dyed decoration can all be used to personalise your book.
