Hare & Fish Bookbinding produces unique hand-bound and designed books. Every single book we sell is bound by hand. My philosophy is that each book is a work of art that may become precious to somebody, even an heirloom. Machine made books are so often soulless and uninspiring. Whether you want a simple travel journal to faithfully follow you round the world, or an heirloom memories book, a Hare & Fish hand-bound book will do the job perfectly!
ABOUT JO WATERS
I am a self-trained traditional bookbinder, and have been running the Hare & Fish bindery since 2003. I draw my inspiration and methods from all types of medieval and renaissance bindings. I’m a particular fan of 15th and 16th century leather bindings and monastic bindings. The vast majority of my books are bound in leather as this is the toughest and, I think, most attractive binding for a book. I use natural, vegetable tanned goatskin or cow-hide, depending on the job. I also dye much of my own leather which allows me to achieve an 'antique' effect.
WHERE ARE WE?
The Hare & Fish bindery is in the attics of a 17th century stone house, located in the pretty village of Fritwell in Oxfordshire. We can deliver across the UK and Worldwide. We are always happy for you to contact us with any questions about our books.
Hi Jo, Received my book today thanks… the first thing that struck me was the colour. It is fantastic leather. The embossing I thought was excellent, then I turned the book over and realised I had been looking at the back; my reaction was WOW! It really is a special piece, much more than I expected. So once again many many thanks for your help and hard work.
